1. (A). Use the intermediate value theorem to show that if f is continuous on a, b and f(a)<0, f(b)>0, then there exists c E (a, b) such that f(c) = 0, i.e., f has a root in (a, b). If, in addition. J(z) > 0, r E (a,b), use the Rolles theorem to show (by contradiction) that there is only one root in (a,b), i.e., there cant be two or more roots (B). Use (A) to show that f(x) - has exactly one root in the interval (1,2).
