1. Beam AB is supported as shown in the below figure. Tie rod (1) has a diameter of 1.5 in. and is attached at B and C with 0.75 in. diameter double- shear pin connections. The pin connection at 4 consists of a 1.0 in. diameter single-shear pin. The pins at A, B. and C each have an ultimate shear strength of 52 ksi, and tie rod (1) has a yield strength of 36 ksi. A uniformly distributed load of w = 2.000 lb/ft is applied to the beam as shown. Assume a = 12 ft, b 15 in, and c 8 ft. Determine: a. The factor of safety for tie rod (1) b. The factor of safety for the double shear pins at B and C. c. The factor of safety for the single shear pin at A.
