1. The following method is used to determine the mass moment of inertia of a flywheel shown in Fig. 1. The flywheel is suspended from its center by a wire from a fixed support, and a period Tı is measured for torsional oscillation of the flywheel about the vertical axis. Two small weights, each of mass m, are next attached to the flywheel in opposite positions at a distance r from the center. This additional mass results in a slightly longer period T2.
