10. A 2 inch diameter solid steel shaft has a gear-hub attached to it by a shrink fit which exerts a radial pressure of 20,000 psi on the shaft. Treat the gear hub as a thick cylinder. The shaft is also subjected to a bending moment of 25,000 in-lb. and a torsional moment of 20,000 in-lb. At the critical point in this shaft calculate: a. The normal stress, ơn, in the direction of a line which passes through the critical point and intersects with the axis of the shaft at an angle of 45 degrees with the shaft axis b.
