12. A building has a square plan 20 ft on each side. The building is 18 ft tall, has a flat roof and a single floor at ground level, and is enclosed by walls. Estimated weight of the building is 16 kip. Snow load is 50 lb/ft2 and wind load is 30 lb/ft2 normal to a wall and 22 lb/ft2 upward on the roof. Floor live load is 40 lb/ft2. The foundation supports the entire building including the floor slab, and consists of four concrete pedestals, one at each corner of the building. For each of the four types of load, separately compute the vertical force on a foundation pedestal. Indicate compression or tension and note that wind load may cause compression or tension, depending on direction of the wind.
