Question: 2 sheet metal ductwork is often used in the attic...

Question details

2. Sheet metal ductwork is often used in the attic of a house to deliver cooled air to the various rooms. In a particular house the ductwork is 12 in. inside diameter, rolled sheets of low carbon steel (k = 25 BTU/hr.ft.oF), of wall thickness 0.04 in. The duct is insulated with 1-in thick glass fiber (k = 0.02 BTU/hr.ft.oF). The air in the duct is at 40oF and this is assumed to be the T of the inside wall. The outside surface T of the insulation is 110oF. How much heat infiltrates the pipe per foot of the duct? (Ans. ~25 BTU/hr-ft of pipe)
