(3 points) For each of the following cases (a) a supersonic jet flying at Mach 1.7 at an altitude hc of 40,000 feet, (b) a research vehicle flying at Mach 3.4 at an altitude hc of 70,000 feet, (c) a Mars mission return space capsule reentering the atmosphere at Mach 40 at an altitude ho of 150,000 feet, determine the temperature at a stagnation point on the vehicle. Assume adiabatic flow of an ideal gas and constant specific heats (with γ 1.4). Express the temperature in K, R, degrees C, and degrees F. For parts (a) and (b): How does your answer compare to the temperature needed to boil water at sea level pressure? How does your answer compare to the maximum temperature of an oven in your home (typically 500°F) For part (c): How does your answer compare to the temperature of the surface of the sun, which is about 10,000 K? Do you think this is an accurate calculation? If not, why? If not, is vour answer an overestimate or underestimate?
