4 (a) Sketch the growth of a boundary layer on a curved plate, which separates from the surface towards the trailing edge. Label the laminar region, the transition point, the turbulent region, the separation point and the laminar sublayer. Show the shape of the velocity profile at 3 different regions along the surface. Alaminar boundary layer develops on a flat plate with a main stream velocity of 35m/s. The air density is 1.226 kg/m and the dynamic viscosity is 1.783 x 10 Pa.s. At a certain point the layer is 12mm thick, if the velocity profile is given by (b) L4 Um 2 Calculate the shear stress, τ. on the surface. The thickness, δ, of a turbulent boundary layer which forms on a flat plate can be evaluated from the relationship: (c) 0.38x Reo2 Calculate the displacement thickness o and momentum thickness e of such a layer at a point 2m from the leading edge of a plate, if the velocity profile is given by uy77 and the plate is set parallel to an airstream of 43m/s.
