SAMPLE 2:

NUMBER OF OBSERVATIONS = 79

MEAN = 30.48101

STANDARD DEVIATION = 6.1

a)Test the hypothesis that the population means are equal for the two samples Using the formula provided in notes, calculate joint standard error (S.E). calculate the t-statistic (Use d.f. = 133, that big formula from the notes would provide you with this number). Find p-value and interpret the results.

b)Test the hypothesis that the miles per gallons for U.S. cars is less than miles per gallons for Japanese cars.
