Question details

A 25 m wide canal is to be deepened by 1.5 m by dredging (Figure 1). The saturated soil under water will be excavated and pumped out through pipes as effluent. The in situ unit weight of the soil at the bottom of the canal is 19.0 kN/m3 and the effluent at unit weight of 12.0 kN/m2 will be pumped out at the rate of 600 litres/minute. How many hours of hours would be required to dredge a 100 m stretch along the canal? Assume G, 2.70 Answer 435 hours 13.
