A construction company wants to construct a very long pipe to supplyair to an offshore underwater research laboratory housingscientistsexamining aquatic life in the Indian Ocean. The pipe is to start ata pumping station located onthe beach and then continue along the sea floor(under the water)to the underwater research laboratory. If the pipe is to have a thickness of 1cm (see figure below)and is to be made from aluminium, determine the maximum internal diameter the pipe can have if it is to remain resting on the sea floor (i.e. the maximum internal diameter where the pipe does not become buoyant). Assume the air contained in the pipe will be at standard atmospheric pressure and the pipe remains rigid (i.e. does not compress). Use a polynomial solver (either online or calculator to solve for r) and show all working used to determine your equation.
