Question: a eukaryotic chromosome is generally considered to be a long...

Question details

A eukaryotic chromosome is generally considered to be a long continuous DNA double helix that extends from one telomere to the other.  In fact, when a double strand break is targeted to the DNA of a transgene in cultured cells, it is repaired within 1-2 hours at most.  A recent deep sequence study made the surprising observation that cultured Human cells maintain 15-20 double strand breaks in the genome, and that the breaks persist for at least 10 hours.  Do you think that these breaks are in euchromatin or heterochromatin?
