A gear reduction unit uses the countershaft shown in the Figure. Gear A (600 mm diameter), receives power from another gear with the transmitted force FA (10kN) applied at the pressure angle ϕ1 (20°) as shown. The power is transmitted through the shaft and delivered through gear B (300 mm diameter) through a transmitted force FB at the pressure angle of ϕ2 (25°). The shaft of this unit is proposed as shown in Figure and it will be built from AISI 1018 cold-drawn steel. The keyseats are cut with standard endmills. The bearings are press-fit against the shoulders. All shoulder fillets have a radius of 2 mm. Determine the location and value of minimum fatigue factor of safety using the DE-Gerber.
