Question: a simple pressure transducer is made by bonding a strain...

Question details

A simple pressure transducer is made by bonding a strain gauge to the outside of a long thin cylinder. The gauge is arranged so that its axis is aligned with the circumference of the cylinder (i.e. at 90° to the longitudinal axis). If the cylinder has an external diameter of 50 mm and a wall thickness of 1 mm, determine the strain/pressure relationship. The ends of the cylinder are formed from end caps that are rigidly attached to the cylinder walls, and the material properties of the cylinder, E =200 GN/m-and v-03. [Ans: ε-102x p]
