A ventilated room has dimensions of 4 m by 4 m by 3 m high. Air temperature and relative humidity in the room are 20 oC and 30%, respectively. The room has an all glass exterior wall with an interior surface temperature of 5 oC. Interior surfaces of the other walls and the ceiling have the same temperature as the room air temperature, while the floor surface temperature is maintained at 28 oC.

A person sits 1 m from and in the center of the glass wall with typical indoor winter clothing, reading a book. The air speed around the person is assumed to be 0.05 m/s with a turbulence intensity of 40%.

1)   Evaluate the thermal comfort conditions of the person in terms of ASHRAE thermal comfort zone, asymmetrical radiation, floor surface temperature and draft.

2)   What can you propose to improve the thermal comfort condition of the person?
