Question: b a circular pipe a carries oil of specific gravity...

Question details

(b) A circular pipe (A) carries oil of specific gravity SG0.70, as shown on the right hand side of the figure below, where the pipe runs in the direction out of the page. The pipe is connected to a fluid processing system, at the far end of which is a vertical pipe that contains water and is open at its top end. This pipe is designed so it overflows h when the absolute pressure at the centre of pipe A (marked by the cross +) reaches 114.9 kPa. For this condition the fluid levels within the system are as shown in the figure, What should the height h of the overflow pipe be so that the water just begins to flow out of the end? Ignore surface tension forces at the end of the pipe and take the density of water to be 1,000 kg/m and the atmospheric pressure to be 101.3 kPa. Note that the shading in the figure is just to help you distinguish one volume of fluid from another. [2.501m] End of pipe is open Pipe A (SG 0.70) SG 1.0 0.70 SG - 1.20 0.5 0.3 2.0 0.85 0.7 1.0 0.6 mWater Water
