The major principal stress is vertical, and the borehole was drilled parallel to the direction of the intermediate principal stress. Sketch a cross-section of the borehole, and indicate positions and values of any stresses which you can calculate. Where would you expect shear-type failure, and where would you expect tensile-type failure. Explain whether either types of failure likely for this borehole
