Case Study: You are the unit manager of a 40-bed medical-surgical unit with sufficient staff coverage with RNs LPNs and UAPs. Walking down the hallway, you hear the following convervasation
RN: I asked you to get Mrs. J ready for her CT scan and you have completely ignored me. Transport has been here and gone because she was not ready and you would not help him.
LPN: I was caught in the room with Mr. P and could not get out of there. Why couldn’t you
get Mrs. J ready? You apparently knew about the CT scan.
RN: It was your job. You were assigned Mrs. J.
LPN: I do my own work and part of yours. You are the RN. You are supposed to be the leader
in this hall.
RN: Don’t get sarcastic with me. I don’t have to put up with this. I am going to report you to
the supervisor.
LPN: Go ahead and report me. I am planning on doing the same for you. I will tell her how
lazy you are!
