Question: consider a cellular manufacturing environment there are nine cells which...

Question details

Consider a cellular manufacturing environment. There are nine cells which either have a capacity to take on 1 or 2 jobs. Suppose there are seven jobs and the hours to complete the jobs by cell are given below:

           Job1 Job2   Job3   Job4   Job5   Job6    Job7

Cell 1: 6.4     4.8     3.1      6.9       2.0      4.4    4.9

Cell 2: 2.5      6.3     5.4      5.8       5.5      2.2      5.3

Cell 3: 5.6      2.3      6.6      6.8      6.4      2.4      4.3

Cell 4: 2.2      4.9      3.8      3.0      4.1      2.9      7.2

Cell 5: 3.4      7.9      3.0      6.6      4.0      3.6      2.6

Cell 6: 6.2      3.3      3.9      2.4      4.5      7.2      5.4

Cell 7: 5.7      3.2      7.7      5.6      4.1      2.6      4.6

Cell 8: 3.2      5.9    7.6    2.2    6.9    3.4    4.0

Cell 9: 5.5      6.7      6.6    7.1    4.8    4.7    4.6

Cells 1, 5, and 6 can handle up to 2 jobs and all other cells can handle at most 1 job. Determine cell-to-job assignments under the allowance that as few as five out of the seven jobs must be completed. This allowance means that as many as two jobs might not be assigned.
