Determine the degree of freedom for the following problems:

A square offshore platform of mass m shown in the figure is supported by four identical flexible
columns. The extensible cable of a small rigid crane is attached to a diving bell of mass Mb
that floats on the calm surface of the ocean. At the instant shown in the figure, the boom of the
crane is parallel to the front edge, AB, of the platform. If the hoist of the crane is suddenly
engaged and lifted the bell at the constant speed, then determine the degree of freedom for the
following cases (i) the crane is fixed on the center of the platform, O, and the boom is parallel
to AB, (ii) the crane is fixed on O but the boom is not parallel to AB, (iii) the crane is fixed
slightly off the O along the axis that is perpendicular to AB and the boom is parallel to AB ,
and (iv) the crane is fixed slightly off the O as in (iii) but the boom is not parallel to AB. For
all the cases l1/=l2 .hoist 2 mb 0
