Question details

ENGLISH/SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY STUDIES

Hi i would like some help writing an essay (500-800 Words) and completing what should be in the essay structure from the information in the attached table :)

It is based off the tv show modern family... We had to choose two of the families... Below is the task... Then a table i have pretty much filled out

ASSESSMENT TASK 1A – ANALYTICAL ESSAY

CONTEXT: In the unit ‘Today’s Society’, you have explored how societies function and evolve over time. You have come to understand the important roles families play in communities (and society as a whole) as well as the individual roles and responsibilities of family members. You have seen how the makeup of families varies and that there are traditional and contemporary family structures. Movies and television frequently portray families as either conforming to or challenging traditional representations.  It is very clear that families in the 21st century are not strictly made up of a mother, father and two children!

TASK: Your task is to write an analytical essay that investigates how two (2) of the family structures in the TV series “Modern Family” are portrayed.

Your essay should:

·       Identify and explain whether the families portray traditional or contemporary family structures in their respective social contexts. To do this you can consider a number of features such as age, gender, sexual orientation, number of children, race and/or religion. Refer to specific characters and events to do this.

·       Discuss whether the representations reflect the current trend of ideas, attitudes and beliefs popular in our culture today. Why/why not?

·       Consider alternative viewpoints of the representations in the series. What target audience might see things differently and why?

·       Evaluate the effectiveness of your chosen texts at portraying families in the 21st century.

At the end of each episode the families come together for harmonious time as a family.

Do the families reflect the current trend of ideas, attitudes and beliefs popular in our culture today? Why/why not?

This family is following more upcoming concepts of family. In most countries same sex marriage is a relativly new thing so they aren’t a ‘traditional family’ but a contemporary family.

This family is a almost a ‘traditional’ family because the two parents stay together, they have 3 kids. But instead of the father providing for the family, the mother does and the father is a stay at home dad.

Alternative viewpoints of the two representations

Is the family a valid portrayal of C21 families?

I believe that this family is a valid portrayal of 21st Century family as the times are changing so what was considered a ‘traditional’ family 20 years ago is not traditional now
