Question details

Hi, need a hand with these 3 questions i have provided my answers to the questions as well as my teachers feedback to my answer please change my answers

4) Why is it important to establish key aspects of cultural safety in consultation with local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people?

It is important to establish key aspects of cultural safety because the past has been terrible where so countless numbers of wars have taken place between the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people where many people have died. It is important to ensure that all our actions are careful and not to be insensitive or hurtful towards them in any way. Beware of their heritage, don’t ask them anything that goes against their culture.

My teacher’s response was in question 4, I am looking for the key aspects of Cultural safety such as a safe environment where Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islander's feel free to express who they are and share their knowledge of the area on which you and they stand. Understanding that there is a wide variety of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander cultures is important in ensuring that their perspectives and understanding of that particular is acknowledged and that a stereo type that 'All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders all believe the same things. Ensuring that resources and materials that centre's access and implement into their program for children are relevant to that specific area.

6) Why is it important to involve Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in evaluations of programs and to revise our strategies and approaches based on these evaluations and feedback?

It is important to be aware and respectful of the relevant extended family and family structures when working with Aboriginal people. Ensure that the extended family is included in important meetings and important decisions are taken. Including: holding a big breakfast welcoming the whole community, regular updates highlighting the dedication to education for all children including organisations and playgroup and mother groups for Aboriginal parents. All individuals are being accepting and showing respect for cross-cultural individuals and appreciate the diversity and an understanding of cultural safety. Everyone is being treated with respect and compassion. The culture, history, faith, values and language of each other are valued by all.

My teacher’s response in question 6, I feel you may be a little confused with what the question is asking of you. Just to clarify it for you, the question is asking you to consider the importance as an educator, when creating and implementing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aspects into your program for the children in your care, to contact and involve local Aboriginal people by perhaps contacting and speaking with your local council and/or Aboriginal Community Centre to ensure you are respecting the local perspectives and beliefs of Aboriginal people within that local community. By including them, you are showing them that their views and their Self-determination to move forward from the past is valued. Please research self-determination. Thank you.

7) What can we use to measure the success of our cultural safety strategies?

Cultural safety is about creating an environment in which the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders are not only well treated, but also culturally respected. It is important to recognise the effects of the past and that Aboriginal people are the first to have an ongoing relationship with this country after 40,000 years. In order to build a culturally safe organisation, it is important that we respect and embrace the Aboriginal culture, values and practises. By including children in creating posters to acknowledge the traditional landowners is an excellent way to engage in cultural safety. The success of the cultural safety strategies can be measured by these 5 dimensions: Race relations, equality and equity, unity, institutional integrity and historical acceptance.

My teacher’s response you have included some fantastic tools to measure the success of a center's cultural safety, however, I am needing you to research what a QIP is if you weren't in class the day we discussed it and also research a RAP development and incorporate these into your answer to question 7 please.
