Question: in a collaborative project with an organic chemist colleague of...

Question details

In a collaborative project with an organic chemist colleague of yours, you decide to test the effect of a new compound he has discovered, fictionate, on the pitch of DNA in solution. You are familiar with the mica experiment described in the text, in which DNA is bound to mica and the exposed side is cut with DNAse I. You attempt to measure the pitch of your DNA using the same method, but much to your dismay you realize that fictionate strongly inhibits DNAse I, and so your experiment is an utter failure. Before you report the bad news to your colleague, what alternative experimental approaches could you take to determine this value? (4 points)
