It is desired to remove the spike from the timber by applying force along its horizontal axis. An obstruction A prevent direct access, so that the two forces, one 1.6 kN and the other P are applied by cables as shown in figure 4.
(a) Determine the magnitude of P necessary to ensure a resultant T directed along the spike. Also find the magnitude of T
(b) Repeat the calculations in part (a) except the
dimension 150 mm is decreased to 50 mm.
c) Repeat the calculations in part (a) except the dimension 150 mm is increased to 250 mm.
d) Repeat the calculations in part (a) except the dimension 150 mm is increased to 350 mm.
e) Discuss the results in (a) to (d) and write a brief
conclusion.
