Question: janice mortimer was the minister for justice in western australia...

Question details

Janice Mortimer was the Minister for Justice in Western Australia for a considerable time: 8 years. During that time there were many rumours suggesting that she was involved in many illegal activities. For instance, it was thought that she protected corrupt police and was negotiating in business dealings with members who were known to be involved in organised crime. These activities were said to benefit her financially through the bribes she received. Although this view was widely held, nothing was published by the media until after her death. In fact, was days after she died the Merry Wide Chronicle ran a front-page editorial entitled “Janice the mother of the underworld”. Advise Janice’s estate whether there is a cause of action for defamation.
