One dimensional swell and consolidation tests were conducted on four samples in natural condition, and mixed with 3 proportions of sand (33%, 50%, and 75%) as shown in Figure 2. The swell lines (at 7 kPa) are not shown on the diagram. a. From the measured swell presure values given in Table 5, determine the initial void ratios at the start of swelling (ei) and estimate the percent swell (sw) for each case. sw= e/(ei+1) x100% b. Determine the Cc, Cr and p of the natural clay (0% sand).
