Thermofluids and Sustainable Energy ENG-5-446, 2016-17 (Main) Q3 Ethanol (C2HsOH) is an alcohol fuel which is liquid at room temperature and pressure (a) Determine the equation for stoichiometric combustion (chemically correct combination) for Ethanol and air (6marks) (b) A small furnace uses Ethanol (C2HsOH) fuel (see figure below). The air and fuel enters the furnace steadily at a temperature of 298K at volumetric/molar air-fuel ratio of 50:1 (excess air). The reaction occurs at 1bar and goes to completion. Using the resource Thermodynamic and Transport Properties of Fluids, and the table enthalpy of formation provided in the equation sheet, produce a table of enthalpy of formation, and sensible enthalpy for the reactants and products (4marks) (iv) Using the First Law of Thermodynamics determine the heat released from the furnace per kmol of Ethanol (3marks) (total marks for question: 20marks)
