Question: problem 4 20 marks a shrink fit pipe assembly is...

Question details

Problem #4: (20 Marks) A shrink fit pipe assembly is formed by shrinking one tube on other. The tubes have the same material with E-207 GPa and v 0.3. The internal and external diameters of the assembly are 120 mm and 200 mm and the diameter of the junction is 160 mm. Due to shrink fit the contact pressure is 8 MPa Determine: a) The radial interference to induce the shrink fit b) The maximum radial and tangential stresses in the inner tube if the pipe assembly has to carry a fluid at 60 MPa.
