Problem 6 (4 marks) a) Consider helium, initially at p = 1 bar and T-200 K, with γ = 1.66 and R = 2077.1 J/kg-K. If the helium passes through a normal shock, at Mach 4 relative to the shock, then evaluate the pressure, temperature, density, and Mach number behind the shock. b) Find the entropy change across the shock and hence show that the shock process is not isentropic c) Now consider an expansion shock, whose speed is Mach 0.5. Show that entropy decreases across this wave using the shock jump conditions, and is therefore impossible.
