A few days after he begins injecting this batch of heroin, TC begins to exhibit symptoms including dilation of his pupils, difficulty with visual accommodation (near vision is blurry) and skeletal muscle weakness (decreased contraction of skeletal muscles). His symptom:s relate to a toxin that was in the black tar heroin and has therefore been injected into his body4. The injected toxin affects one specific neurotransmitter.
