Question : A patient presents with pain at the base of the right (R) thumb adjacent to the anatomical snuffbox and all active ranges of thumb motion are limited with extension range the most painful.

a) Outline the gross physiological movements of the relevant thumb joint that you would assess in your passive movement examination of this patient and the expected ranges for these on the non affected side (where ranges are usually quoted and available), towhich you would compare. (7 Marks)

b) Indicate the differentiating passive movement assessment you could perform using accessory movements to further examine the thumb pain. Be specific with naming the tests you would do. (5 Marks)
