The molar fraction of benzene in the entering liquid steam is 0.1 and the molar fraction of benzene in the gaseous stream leaving the column is 0.04. The following information are available:
- The equilibrium follows Henry’s law
- The column is operated at atmospheric pressure
- When the molar fraction in the oil is 0.15, the partial pressure is 7.6 kPa
- 80% of the benzene is recovered
a) Using the graphical method, calculate the number of theoretical stages (do not assume dilute solution).
b) Using the analytical method, calculate the number of theoretical stages.
c) If the efficiency of the trays is 30%, what is the number of actual trays?
