Question 11 (25 marks) 11(a) (16 marks) Water flows in a rectangular channel of width 7 m with a bed slope of 0.0016 and Manning n -0.01 m1/8s. Calculate the depth of flow if there is a flow rate of 10 m3/s, i. assuming the channel is wide enough for edge effects to be ignored, (6 marks) ii. including edge effects (10 marks) 11(b) (9 marks) Experiments are to be carried out on a scale model of the channel. If the model channel is too shallow, it is likely that surface tension effects will be important, in which case the Weber number must be considered. Assuming that the Weber number depends on the depth h and speed V of the flow, the density p and the surface tension σ (units : N/m), use dimensional analysis to derive the formula for this dimensionless number.
