Question: rare earth elements rees are all very similar in their...

Question details

Rare Earth elements (REEs) are all very similar in their behavior. However, the natural abundance of the REE vary by a factor of 30. In order to study overall REE geochemical behavior, these element variations are normalized by dividing the REE concentrations in a whole rock sample by the REE concentrations in ordinary chrondrites, and when they are normalized with differentiated meteorites (for comparison), the values obtained are quite similar. The exception to this is with Europium. Geochemists refer to this as the Europium anomaly. Discuss and suggest reasons for the behavior of Eu in comparison to the other REEs.
