Question: the estrogen receptor is an intracellular receptor that responds to...

Question details

3. The estrogen receptor is an intracellular receptor that responds to the hormone estrogen. When estrogen is bound, a signal is transduced to the nucleus to regulate gene expression to stimulate cell proliferation. In some types of breast cancer, estrogen receptors are found at a higher frequency (over expressed) compared to normal tissue, but levels of estrogen hormone are normal. Explain how over- expression of estrogen receptors could lead to cancer.
