Question details

Both John and Paul always want to consume 48 units of good A and 48 units of good B. Assume that John is able to produce 6 units of good A or 8 units of good B per hour. Paul is able to produce 12 units of good A or 8 units of good B per hour. Working on their own, each one of them devotes to work as much time as is required to produce the amounts of good A and good B. which each wants to consume. How many hours of work will each of them save if instead of working on their own they decide to cooperate in the most efficient possible way?

Which answer is correct:

They will both save 2h each. Only John will save time because he has smaller production possibilities. In both cases they will work the same number of hours. John will save 2h, while Paul will save 3h. John will save 2h, while Paul will save 4h

Please explain carefully.
