I think that anxiety is a part of everyone’s life in some way. It seems like many people I know suffer from some sort of anxiety disorder, including my brother and my mother. I personally have never had anxiety until the last year or so. For me, it affects me when I have a lot going on, and I start to over think things. It usually affects me most when I am trying to go to sleep and I can’t turn my brain off. I’m not sure of any circumstances where anxiety would be good, but maybe when seeing someone who you have not seen for a long time. That anxiety would be considered a “happy anxiety”. I can think of many examples where anxiety would be a bad thing but the one that comes to the top of my mind is testing anxiety. I know I personally suffer from test anxiety and I can always see it on my test scores. I get myself so worked up over the upcoming test that I often don’t do as good as I know I could have.

I know many people who have been treated for an anxiety disorder and that treatment was always some sort of medication. The medications do seem to help control the anxiety but it is definitely not a cure according to the people I know that take it. I think it helps them not get overly anxious in certain situations, but there is usually always some sort of lingering anxiety it seems like. Disadvantages of taking medication may be that a person becomes addicted to the medication, or the person that is taking the medication never finds the root of all of their anxiety. I feel like a better treatment plan would be to find the stem of the anxiety and try to eliminate the things in their lives that are contributing to their anxieties.
